Bora! Bora! Bennett!(*)

(* with apologies to German fun hardcore dance band Scooter)

Sam Bennett takes the stage win for BORA-Hansgrohe two days in a row! But the rider of the day has to be his lead-out man Danny van Poppel who was on the front going flat out, realised his man was missing, stopped riding, went back, fetched Sam and launched him up the left of the road for the winning sprint. That’s why I think the best man finished 10th.

Team of the Day

Again there were four teams with the stage win, but top points went to Cuchara de Madera aqui. That’s 3 stage wins out of 3! And with Jumbo-Visma passing the red jersey round (I imagine it pongs a bit after Gesink and Teunissen have worn it…) DS Linda also includes the new GC leader, TJV’s Edoardo Affini. There would have been a few moments of panic when Carapaz lost his chain in the closing stages and Skineos had to chase him back on. Here they are:

However Linda’s squad are leading in the number of top ten finishes after 3 stages, with 7 so far:

Paul’s Velo Espana remain ahead in the mini-league (just) with Cuchara de Madera aqui 14 points behind, and Dave’s Dream Catcher completing the podium after the weekend in The Netherlands.

… look up the pictures of one of the town’s most famous sons, Peter Breughel the Elder. In this scene a nattily dressed soigneur (in the colours of Bahrain-Victorious with a feather in his hat) offers a spare wheel during the aftermath of another incident involving the road furniture.

  1. In the painting there is also an ancestor of our very own DS Dr. James looking distressed over some spilt porridge.

  2. Ah yes! Well spotted. I’m sure the Dutch proverb is “There’s no use crying over spilt porridge”
